Serum hepatocyte growth factor as a predictor of disease severity and future exacerbations in patients with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis
2021, Respiratory MedicineCitation Excerpt :Uric acid is known to be an antioxidant in the plasma and plays an important role in defending the lung from oxidative stress [48]. Elevated levels of serum uric acid are related to systemic inflammation and detected during pulmonary hypoxia [49,50]. Until now, it is unknown whether increasing serum uric acid prevents the progression of respiratory disease or increased oxidative stress by disease progression can lead to higher levels of uric acid.
